Good Parents

Recently, parents are taught how to be good parents. Especially in Taiwan, parents in the past adopted principles for child discipline. However, as many parents are well-educated nowadays, they want to be good parents. Good parents not only raise their children but should care, educate and discipline them appropriately.
Good parents not only raise their children, like giving them food and clothing, but also care them. Good parents should try to understand their children. For example, they should often chat with their children so they can know what happen to their children. In Taiwan, some children behaved badly in school or skip school to fool around outside. Worst of all, some children reject to go home. Children have such behavior mostly because their parents do not care about them. Those busy parents just focus on their jobs and pay little attention to their children. Hence, these children tend to make bad friends, who seem to care and help them. Besides, once children feel that their parents do not care about them, and then they will do whatever they want without thinking about the consequence. Good parents must spend time on their children and keep a good relationship with them.
Children receive education in school, but parents still have to educate them after school. Good parents will instill respect for the law and the right value toward money as well as morality in the young generation. Moreover, they should be taught to develop good habits. Fore instance, they must keep their rooms clean. They must respect the elders. Good parents form children’s good personalities by educating them in daily life. They praise them and make them optimistic. For example, they tell them the story that Washington chopped down the cherry tree and he was brave to admit mistakes. Children are required to display their virtues, which are more important than anything.
Last year, the California Legislature considered criminalizing the spanking of toddlers. But at least half of the parents and according to some surveys claim that 94 percent of parents consider a swat on the bottom to be an appropriate form of discipline. According to the survey, punishment is just one way to discipline children. Most important of all, good parents know how to punish their children appropriately. They don’t lose their temper by punishing children, and they don’t abuse children. When children do something wrong, they will tell them what is wrong and why they receive the punishment. Hence children will understand that they are punished because of parents’ love. In my memory, my father punished me only one time. He beat me because I behaved impolitely in front of visitors. He is a good father. He tended to talk with me when Ii did something wrong, and he gave me chances to explain. Hence, I thought he adopts a more acceptable way to educate children. Learning to be good parents is a long-term work. Being a good parent is not easy. When I think about my parents, I not only appreciate them, but regard them as my role model. Parents will influence their children all the time.

Uniforms

A uniform is worn by a group of people who belongs to an organization or company. It is a tradition that students wear uniforms to school in Taiwan. Today many high school students debate about whether they should wear uniforms to school or not. Some think it’s unnecessary, others think it’s obsolete, and still others think it does allow student to express their uniqueness and individuality. I support that high school students should be required to wear uniforms. Not only does wearing uniforms give people good images, but it keeps some unnecessary distractions away. Moreover, it is more affordable for parents.
First, wearing uniforms gives people good images. It’s said that ninety-nine percent people judge a person by his clothing and appearance at first sight. Wearing uniforms can show tidiness and discipline of the students. It sets an example of the school and represents the students’ identity and respect to the school. Hence, that’s one of the reason that I refute that wearing cannot represent students’ individuality and uniqueness. At this age, students spend most of time in school with their peers, and it’s just the beginning that they research for self-identity. Accordingly, it is not the right time for them to show their uniqueness. Showing the uniqueness makes them alien to their peers, or this kind of self-expression leads to the formation of cliques in the school environment. In addition, students come from different families. We hope that teachers can treat them equally instead of judging them by appearances and clothing.
Second, uniforms can keep students out of some unnecessary distraction. For instance, wearing uniforms makes students focus on their studies instead of on fashion. Students go to school mainly for studying instead of showing their uniqueness and individuality. I think they can save the time of choosing the fashionable clothes. At this age, students are not old enough to judge whether values toward money are right or not. They maybe blindly follow the latest trend and ignore their studies when they suffer the pressure from their peers. Once students cannot deal with such pressure, they will choose to steal money to buy clothes or to do other illegal things. To make such things simple, unifying students’ clothes may be a good solution.
Third, uniforms are more affordable to parents. Good quality uniforms may be a little expensive can hold up for one to three years. Moreover, it can be worn no matter what weather it is. There is no pressure for poor students who cannot afford nice and famous brand clothes. The chance to be ridiculed by others for the way they dress will be reduced. On the other hand, parents do not have to buy the fashionable but expensive clothes all the time for their children, and children will not ask their parents for fashionable clothes which their peers wear. For parents and students, wearing uniforms is more economical.
In sum, wearing uniforms makes others have good impression. Moreover, it prevents some unnecessary distractions to students. For example, students can concentrate on their studies instead of on fashion. In the other hand, it saves parents money. Given the three reasons, I strongly agree that high school students should be required to wear uniforms.

Big meal

Last Wednesday, I had Mos burgar in our campus for dinner with some classmates to celebrate Jessica's birthday. It's a rainning day. This is the first time I had Mos burgar. It's delicious but I kept burping after I went home and the smell out of my mouth is bad. I guessed the reason is that I had a large cup of coke.
Today my club friends and I went to a all-you-can-eat hot pot restauroom. I started to eat until one o'clock and I was very hungry. I spent two hunderd and thirty NT dollar because it is a big meal. Therefore, I planned not to have dinner.
This week I am going to have two big meals because some senior will graduate this semester.

Busy Month

June is a busy month for collage students because this semester is ending. I am busy in preparing two term papers and one prsentation. I was under pressure and term papers make me upset. This time I choosed to introduce Pixar's animated films as the topicc of the English-News class prsentation. I have saw most of films, which are funny and full of creativity. I choose to show the story of Wall-E. It is truely a two robots' love story. However, it brings some idea about recycling. We should love the earth and reduce the amount of garbage. The leading actor, Wall-E, who only says Eva during this film. It's very interesting that the robots shows the humanity. They fall in love. I love this film and it really touched me.

A Happy Week

This is week is a happy week because we only had classes for three days. I enjoy the se days that I don't have class. The intructor asked us to listen to a lecture for the English literature class on the Monday morning , but I didn't go. I stayed home and read a book which I want.In the Tuesday, the instructor treated us pizza and we watched a movie called The Other Boleyn Girl. It is an story about the love between Henry the eight and two sisters. I recognized one of the sisters who acts Mary is Scarlett Johanson. The plot is great and the story reflects the differet personalities of two sisters. One is kind and considerate, and the other one is ambitious. I couldn't judge who is right or wrong, because every one just thinks about her benefit. I went home on Thuresday afternoon, and I ate rice dumpling for my lunch. I accompanied my family for the dragon-boat festival. I went back to Taichung this afternoon. Sophie took her sister's dog, DoDo to my house. We chatted and ''played'' with DoDo. She said he's a stupid dog but I think he's really cute.

Misery loves company

I takes the title too far. I just want to say that I got cold after the period. I felt that my body becomes weak than before because I felt sluggish when I was sick. What's more, I also felt sluggish when I had cramps recently. I had a terrible sore throat last night. I got a cold. I went to see the doctor after class.

free writing

I agree partly with Strick's opinion. We need some leisure time to relax ourselves. Every one has limited time so it hard for people to be good at doing every thing. We can be the expert on some field but we can't expect to be expert on every field. For example...

Mother's Day

I went home yesterday. I helped my mom worship the god, burn the money paper and throw the garbage. After the dinner, my parents and I took a walk at the playground. We watched TV at night as usual. Mom said there is a new-opened supermarket and she wanted to take me to go there. We looked around there. Today is Mother's Day, I accompanied my mom to go hiking for one hour in the morning. Mom, my brothers and I had a lunch in a restaurant. It's really special for my family, because we seldom eat outside. The restaurant is famous for stake and all-you-can-eat salad buffet. There are so many people in the restaurant today. We waited for a while. We were all full but my mom still wanted to eat more. I kept said no to my mom because I can't eat any more. I am happy today. I enjoyed having meal with my family in the restaurants. It's pity that my dad didn't join us due to his job.

The Midterm Exam

Although I hate exam, I still have to prepare it. Last weekend, I spent more time on studying and I felt that I had two great days. Under the prssure of exam, I think I make the most of time. Besides, I slept well. If I was tired, I would take a rest and I would get up until I slept enough. If I felt fresh, I can concentrate on studies. After this week, I had had seven exams, some are easy but some are not. The open-book exam is not so easy to do well. I learned a lesson that I must take notes even this exam is a open-book exam.

Reunion

My seniors and junior had dinner together in a Argentina restaurant. We spent less but we were full. After the meal, we chatted and gossipped as usaul. Angela told us those things which happened in New York. She went to do part-time job in America for two months. She worked in a restaurant in Washington D.C. as a waitress. She said Wshington D.C. can be roughly devided four area, rich-white people area, not-rich-white, common-black people, and poor-black. The restaurant is in the common-black people area but it's closed to the poor-black area. She was afraid of those black people would eat without paying money. Hence, she said no wonder there is still gap between white and black people. Angela suggested me to go abroad. She really love s New York and want to live there. Somehow if I can choose where to live, I choose to live Japan because of the good social order and the Japanese characristics.

On April 4, my family went to I-land to sweep tombs. It's an important holiday that many people will reunion . We get up early to set up early because there will be traffic jams that day. After 3 hours we got I-land. We went to grandmo's home and met my uncle, aunt, and cousins. And then we went ti sweep tomb together. We had to sweep four tombs. My mom prepared four cardboard which were filled with monetary papers, incense sticks, snacks, soda, a kind of special paper.Besides, my mom prepared knives and newspaper. We needed to clean the tomb and cut off the bay. I like this feeling that my family is gathering together and finish some thing. After we grew up, we had less time being together. My brothers and I will work at different places, and we will get married or live at different places in the future. I can remember the old days. We played together, fight. I teased my younger brother in my childhood, but now I can't tease him anymore. He became taller and stronger than I. It seems that those things happened yesterday.

We rode throgh a narrow tunnel which originally was a railroad. We passed the narrow bridge. The scenery along the road is beautiful. People can be relax and ride the bike. There are many food vendors along the road. It's convenient but the food is more expensive than other places. I ate two hotdogs and a boiled corn there. The boiled corn was sweet. We were exhausted in the end because wetotally rode ten to fifteen km a day. I came home and fell asleep soon after bath. A tiring but happy day.

Lost My Key

Last night when I was going to ride my scooter, I couldn't find my key. I always put it in the pocket of my beg. I was nervous and sad. However, yesterday we had a big dinner together to celerbrate the winter camp. A senior took me to the restaurant. Even though I was in bad mood, I still ate some thing. I was totally hungry, but recalled my lost key. I worried. The restaurant is 石頭, a all-you-can-eat restaurant. I didn't recommend it. Because there is less choise of material for barbecu, especially the seafood. I was a little disappointed. I liked dried bean curd sushi and shrimp eggs temaki. After we were full, we started to draw the raffle tickets. I won the first prize. However, the gift is three T-shirt designed for winter camp. After the dinner, I called somebody to help me to make the other key. I found that I put my key in the storage compartment. I was so stupid and less careful. Fortunately, I found my key.

speak for pet

Recently I am interested in a special woman who can speak for pets. She is able to communicate with dogs, cats. I thought it's amazing and strang. I knew this woman first on a TV program. Dogs don't make sound ,and the woman still can understand their thoughts. It seems that they talk in mind. Then I searched a blog, and read many stories of many pets with their masters. Some pets will talk about their masters. They understand their masters' thoughts. For exaple, many dogs say their mommy want to get in shap, but they failed. They hope they can get in shape successfully. Through this kind of conversation, masters can know what their pets think. Most importantly, they know the pets' health condition. What illness they suffer. Many dogs are so considerate and sweet. They know their masters are hard-working. They will say some warm words to praise them. I was touched when I read their stories. I believe that pets can talk. I admired that the woman volunteer to be a speaker for animals for free. She has been helping many dogs and cats. I admired her. I am thinking about and wish that what will Little-Yellow talk to me.

Yesterday

I was in good mood and bad mood yesterday. I lost a part-time job yesterday. My student's mother called to the custmer service and said that I was chatting during the class wit her children. I felt so bad. She misunderstood me. It's impossible that I just chat with her children all the time, but it's impossible that I don't talk with my students. If I don't talk with them. How can I know their conditions ? I was andry either. From this experience, I get a lesson. I have to talk with parents all the time and be careful to do my duty. Or I will be dismissed from my job with no reason again. I have to the truth that if someone dismiss you and then they can find any excuse. I was in the bad mood util the night. I joined a tea party of a club. Some people are my friends who are belong to the club.

A-Li Mountain

I joined a camp and took a trip to A-Li Motain with my club friends, who also joined the camp. At the first day, we sopped at Fengihu. We saw the engine of train and took pictures there. We had the ffamous Fengihu luchbox for lunch. I thought the lunch box was too expensive and not delicious. In the afternoon, we discussed and prepared a play which we showed in the evening. I felt excited when a old train was running in front of me. We had a meeting in the afternoon. We practiced how to let a meeting go fluently, and used what we learned in the three-day classes. I felt bored during the two-hour meeting. We watched other plays which was played by other groups. They are very funny and creative. Besides, the host taught us to dance. We danced with a Taiwanese song, called ''You Are My Flower.'' We went to our room about nine. I went to bed at 11:30. We all went to bed early because we had to get up at 4 to see the sunrise.
It's torture for me to get up so early but it's worth appreciating the sun setting. I had nvere been to A-Li Mountain before, so I felt excited for this trip. I saw the beautiful cherry blossom. I also enjoyed the fresh air which make me feel comfortable and easy.

My Part-time Jobs

My Part-time Jobs

This semester I have two part-time jobs. One is teaching English in a cram school, and the other is teaching a girl English and math. Although two jobs seem similar however, they are totally different. There are three major differences between them, which is the way I teach, the time I prepare for, and the salary I get.
Teaching English in a cram school makes me exhausted because I have to face eleven students at the same time. I need to make sure that every student is following what I say. For example, when I teach an alphabet, I will ask them to raise their hands and practice writing. They finish writing the alphabet three times on their exercise books before I teach the next one. I had to wait for those students who had not finished, because I must care every student at the same time. In addition, learning how to control a class is very important because it is not allowed for the students to be out of control or too noisy. In contrast, as a tutor, I can just focus on a student so it is much easier for me. I don’t have to spend lots of time preparing activities because I just teach her and answer her questions. Moreover, I feel relaxed when I teach a student because the class is flexible. I can adjust the schedule depended on the situation for the student. For instance, I will give her 15 minutes to ask questions before I start to teach a new lesson. If she has difficulties to understand what I teach, I will spend more time explaining it until she really comprehends.
Second, I have to spend more time preparing material for a class than a tutoring session. Before giving a class, I need to think about how I will teach. Whether teachers can teach a class well depends not on their knowledge but on the method. For example, I think and design some activities or games during the class, so they can not only learn something from my class but also have fun. Children may learn more from activities and games. Boring class, in contrast, cannot arouse their interest in English. Hence, the preparation before a class is important. However, tutoring is easier and simple. I seldom prepare for that because I can answer her questions and teach her the knowledge I have learned before. In addition, I don’t have to spend time designing activities. Printing and searching for quiz questions may take the most time, because I sometimes give tests to my student to know whether she really learned and reviewed after class.
The salary I get as a tutor is much higher than I teach in the cram school. I think the reason is that the former is depended on my academic performance. If I study at more famous and excellent university, I may get higher salary; the later is depended on my teaching experience. For instance, an experienced teacher will teach students well, and many students may be attracted by her. Hence, she become famous and many students would like to teach by her. The more students she teaches, and the better salary she gets.
I get different experiences from these two part-time jobs. Even though I earn less money from teaching a class, I gain a better sense of achievement from it. Moreover, those cute and innocent children give me the passion for teaching. It may be the other type of“salary.” I know I still have to learn and improve myself so that I can do well on these two jobs.

Dormitories vs. Apartments

Dormitories vs. Apartments
University students can choose to live in the university dormitory or an apartment. There are advantages and disadvantages living in these two types of housing. They are different in the aspects of expense, privacy, and levels of freedom.
Living in the dormitory costs less than living in an apartment. When renting an apartment, although each student shares the utility fee, he or she has to pay for the rent of his or her own room and thus the expenses will be higher. In addition, he or she has to cover other expenses, like the Internet access charge. In the dorm one can access the high-speed Internet access at a low price. However, there is no high-speed internet access in an apartment. Moreover, the total expense of living in an apartment is nearly double every month. For example, I pay NT2800 for the rent every month, but living in the dorm only costs NT10000 each semester, including the rent, the water bill, and the Internet fee. Therefore, living an apartment is really more expensive than living in the dormitory.
One thing that is good about living in an apartment is privacy. Students living in the dormitory don’t have personal space but those who rent an apartment do. It is inconvenient on some occasions. For example, some girls have to go to the bathroom to change clothes because they feel embarrassed to do that in front of their roommates. For me, I don’t like to change clothes in the bathroom because of the wet floor. I choose an alternative--opening the doors of closet and standing between the two doors to change clothes. However, in an apartment, each one has her room and therefore can keep personal his or her own privacy. I can change in my room without feeling embarrassed. Besides, I can write my diary at anytime, because I don’t have to worry that someone stands behind me and read what I write.
Third, students who rent an apartment enjoy more freedom than those living in the dormitory. When living in the dorm, girls have to return to the dorm by 11 or they will be given an oral warning. If they violate the regulation for more than five times, they are not allowed to live in the dormitory anymore. In contrast, people can do whatever they want when living an apartment. There is no regulation that one should obey. For instance, I can invite my friends to my place and chat all night and come back at night late without worrying about the curfew. On the other hand, I can also listen to loud music in my room and need not worry that I may bother others. In the same case, no one will bother me and make me angry when I am sleeping or studying.
To sum up, there are pros and cons in living in the dorm or in an apartment. Students can have their better choices after knowing the differences in them. Some students want to spend less so they prefer to live in the dormitory. Some people want to keep personal privacy or have more freedom so they choose to rent an apartment.
Outline
Introduction: I compare them according to my experience on the aspects of the expense, privacy, and the levels of freedom.
1 the expense; the rent, the additional fee like the Internet fee
2 the privacy; change clothes the inconvenience
3the freedom: curfew;will not be bothered or bother other people
Conclusion : Students have the better choices after knowing the differences of them.

We bought a cake and had dinner in the 25night market.
Actually I planned to go around 逢甲night market and ate delicious nacks , but I didn't do that.
When I thought about the final exam, I can not have fun.
It's a pity. I had to face exams on my every special day.

Happy New Year holidays

I had good time on holiddays.
On the night of the last day in 2008, I was with David in the campus. It was so cold and had a little rain . We bought snacks from the food stands for dinner, and we stood and watched the performance. Ther were some singer singing songs. Moreover, the pricipal also sang a Taiwanese song.Near 12'oclock, we count down and said ''happy new year !'' After I heard my favorite singer sang three songs, I went home and felt very tired.
On Jan. first,David and I went to have braekfast, my favorite store didn't open. I felt very dissapointed because I couldn't have the soya milk. Then, I helped David pack his stuff for moving in the morning, and we cleaned his new house in the afternoon.
On Jan.2, I went to Dajia by riding my scooter in the morning. It's a windy day, and the wind was so strong. My mom prepared hotpot for dinner. I was so full. My family wathed TV together.
On Jan.3, I went to library and studied in the morning. I went to visit a old friend, Petty.
She also came back Dajia on holidays. We chatted very happily, but unfortunately she went to Tainan soon. We had hotpot for dinner again.
Time waits no man. A year went by.
